Rugosa Roses
|
The species Rosa rugosa, native to Japan and China, and Hybrid Rugosa roses are large, hardy, disease-resistant shrubs that require little maintenance and tolerate growing conditions considered unsuitable for other roses. They have distinctive textured foliage - medium to dark green with deep veining. Hybrid rugosa inherited the ability to repeat bloom from the species, and all produce attractive hips in autumn if spent blooms are not removed. Pruning should be restricted to thinning and removal of old wood, and chemical sprays should not be used as it tends to burn the foliage. Zones 3-9 |
