Hybrid Perpetual Roses

Hybrid perpetual roses originated from crosses between a variety of roses, including Autumn Damask and China roses, from which they inherited their remontant nature. They are characterized by an upright and arching growth habit, and flowers in the pink to red range that are double to very double, usually cupped, and fragrant. In hot, humid climates, Hybrid perpetual roses tend to get a bit of blackspot, but not usually enough to diminish their perfomance to any significant degree. Rich soil, ample water, and regular feeding help them resist disease. Hybrid perpetual roses tend to be large bushes (about 6 ft. tall) and somewhat leggy, and are often best grown as small climbers or self-pegged. Rebloom ranges from sparse to good, but for all, bending the long arching canes horizontally increases the number of blooms enormously.
